Inverness Parks and Lakes

Residents of Inverness enjoy the outdoors. As such, we are blessed with numerous public parks ranging from the 10,000 acre Oak Mountain State Park to Hoover’s Veterans Park. Many parks include walking and hiking trails, lakes and streams and beautiful wooded areas for year-round activities. Discover the possibilities below.

Some parks may require approval for some team or group activities. Please contact the parks directly for more information regarding facility usage.

Inverness Greenway

An engineering study has helped clear the way for the first phase of the Inverness Community Greenway, a trail for walkers and bikers that will make a loop through neighborhoods off Valleydale Road along Inverness Parkway. Most of the planned greenway is in Hoover and will be part of a route that will ultimately link Veterans Park on Valleydale Road with a 77-acre nature park already located in Inverness. Part of the route between the two parks will be six to ten-foot-wide sidewalks.

Inverness Nature Park and Trail

Located on Inverness Center Parkway, this 77-acre park has a greenway with a 1.8 mile walking trail and a disc golf course. It is located on 77 acres in North Shelby County near Lake Heather and Highway 280.

Inverness Fire Station Park

Inverness Park is located on Inverness Parkway (1 Acre). This park has a playground and picnic area and is located to the left of and adjacent to Fire Station #7.

Lake Heather

Adjacent to Inverness, Lake Heather is a private lake, owned by the Lake Heather Homeowners’ Association, Inc. (“LHHA”). In order to allow appropriate use of the lake, LHHA has a permitting program and has promulgated Lake Heather rules and Regulations. Click on the link above to access these. All boaters and fishermen must obtain a permit before using the lake.

Heardmont Park

Heardmont Park covers seventy-four acres which includes the Oak Mountain High School Football Stadium with rubberized track, nine baseball/softball fields, three soccer fields, playground facilities, walking trails, 4 lighted tennis courts and a senior center located within the park.

Spain Park

Spain Park is a spacious park featuring two baseball fields, two softball fields, public batting cages and a children’s playground. The park is adjacent to Veterans Park on Valleydale Road and Hoover’s Spain Park High School.

Veterans Park on Valleydale

Veterans Park, an 82 acre park on Valleydale Road, features both 5K and 8K cross country courses, four beach volleyball courts, two pavilions and two children’s playgrounds with swing sets.

Oak Mountain State Park

As Alabama’s largest park, Oak Mountain provides 9,940 acres of pine-studded ridges and lush green hardwood bottoms. Runner’s World magazine recently named the running trails at Oak Mountain as one of “The Crown Jewels”, listing them among the Top 25 Best Trail Runs in America.

These are exciting times in Inverness! Inverness offers all the amenities that homebuyers are looking for, and our Hoover and Shelby County schools are second to none.
